The Iraqi Private Banks League recently participated in a banking sector workshop organized by the Baghdad Chamber of Commerce. The workshop saw the involvement of the Finance Committee in Parliament, the Central Bank of Iraq, and the Ministry of Trade.
During a panel discussion, the League's Deputy Executive Director, Ahmed Al-Hashemi, shared insights alongside the Central Bank representative, Mustafa Al-Obaidy; Ministry of Trade representative Mohammed Hanoun; and the Baghdad Chamber of Commerce Advisor, Heydar Al-Dainy. The primary focus of the discussion revolved around the mechanisms for financing Iraq's foreign trade and the utilizing of the dollar and other currencies adopted by the Central Bank.
Al-Hashemi stated that the banking sector has become capable of financing Iraq's foreign trade, at the official exchange rate, without any significant restrictions. He also pointed out that the banking sector, during this period, has become more open to foreign correspondent banks in order to adopt other currencies.
