League Signs MoU with the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) in Washington

During the Iraqi Prime Minister's visit to the United States, the Iraqi Private Banks League, as an active member of the official delegation, signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) to support the banking sector's transition to a green economy, promote the development of Iraq's energy sector, and modernize the country's energy infrastructure.

The signing ceremony took place in Washington, D.C. The agreement was signed on behalf of the Iraqi Private Banks League by its Chairman, Wadee Al-Handel, and on behalf of the American side by William Kent, Executive Director of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).
The partnership underscores the leading role of Iraq's banking sector in directing financing and policies toward renewable energy projects and sustainable infrastructure development.

The memorandum provides a key framework for supporting and activating financing dedicated to clean solar energy projects. It also establishes a new phase of cooperation with international financial institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), to secure the financing facilities required to address challenges facing Iraq's national electricity grid and improve its efficiency.

The strategic partnership also includes the launch of institutional and technical capacity-building programs, the transfer of advanced knowledge and technology to Iraqi professionals through internationally accredited certifications, and the establishment of a comprehensive framework for providing specialized technical advisory services to ministries, municipalities, and financial institutions. These efforts aim to promote investment in carbon emissions reduction projects and implement ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles, in full alignment with the government's vision of achieving sustainable economic development and strengthening Iraq's energy security.
